I Spy: Coincidence or Styling?

Leafing through the March issue of Traditional Home, I noticed these light blue bottles in the room designed by Ruthie Sommers. Pretty and fresh, I think they look great as part of the tablescape. (photography by Grey Crawford)
Ten pages later I noticed the same light blue vases on the mantle of this room designed by interior designer Mark Williams. They look great there too, contrasted against the white walls and fitting in with the light, casual decor of the room.
(photography by Michael Garland)
In the source guide it appears that they're from Hollyhock. So it makes me wonder, is this a coincidence or a styling addition for the photo shoot? Either way, they look great in both rooms.
Additional thought - In the scheme of things that are going on in the world today, this really doesn't matter, does it?

I really believe that part of what we do is sharing of ideas and design tips. So I don't think it matters coincidence or not!

Does it really matter? No. Is it fun to guess? Absolutely. And ditto to you having a great eye.

I vote styling, sadly. Though I think they look great in both!

I noticed this as well. My guess is styling.

You've got good eyes! I am going to have to go back and look with more attention to detail!

I loved the fact that you notice this sort of detail. I have seen this happen before too so it likely falls into both camps.

I love glass bottles of all kinds and colors After recently being part of a styling for a house I designed that was being photographed I quickly realized how much is just that "styling". Now I know why my house doesn't look like a magazine spread! Come by my "Week of White" and comment so you can win my give away. It's a good one.

Interesting observation!! As you said, the vases look great in both rooms. My guess is styling, but you never know, could just be two designers with the same idea :-)

styling absolutely!
my home has been stylized several times for mags.(the good ol' days when they needed stories) props were always brought and sometimes to poor effect. this however was subtly done and you spied it!

Disaster is part of what I do for a living, and YES this matters! When I worked Katrina it was sooo important for me to come home to a restful space that I loved and that grounded me.

Oh, and I adore your blog!

Oh my gosh, it's like you spotted an inconsistency in a movie. Good eye!

Based on the comments, looks like it might be styling. Thanks too for the encouragement that's it's ok to write about these small things.

Oh good spotting....very interesting!

It does make you wonder? I know they do bring their own props for photo shoots,so maybe they did. Either way two great choices for both shoots. Kathysue

It bothers me to see the same design element in different rooms like that. Not sure why on the ethical platform. Recently in blog photos I saw the same element repeated over and over in photos of a shop. It nagged me until I figured maybe they had more than one. :-)
