DC Design House: Bare Bones Part 1

First, before I get into some of the details of the plans for the first floor of the upcoming DC Design House, let me give you my overall impression - there's going to be an emphasis on color!   Case in point, the green ceiling of Camille Saum's entry/staircase, which was already for show during the Bare Bones Tour.  This year, C2 is the new paint sponsor.  The other point to note - it's in a stately, older home with some beautiful detailing.  Color + Good Bones - very promising!

JoAnne Fitzgerald of Gatega Interior's powder room is going to feature a beautiful peacock wall covering and contemporary elements.  A smart take-away - since the tiles were mud set (so hard to remove) she opted to cover the bottom with a thin sheetrock and the upper with a slighter thicker version creating a smooth wall.  When all was said and done, only 1" of space was lost from the perimeter.

Victoria Sanchez will be working her magic on the sun filled family/wine tasting room.   I'm loving the textures and patterns she has planned, along with the chic furnishings.

Nadia Subaran of Aidan Design, a DC Design House favorite, has a fun kitchen planned.  Looking forward to that.

Kelly Proxmire will be giving this living room the grand status it deserves, including the addition of a piano.  The built-ins are fabulous with gorgeous detailing - from what I could tell I think they're staying.  Love them.

Up next is the library, which includes a curved hall!!

Nestor Santa-Cruz will be creating a luxe, chic retreat with classic detailing. Always a favorite of mine.

A close-up of the existing finish in the library.  Tracy Morris will be adding to the chicness of this part of the home with a swanky library bar.

There's also a fun playroom planned by Katherine Vernot-Jonas, which includes a climbing wall. elevated play area and a wall-tree bookcase.

So that's just some of the spaces from the first floor.  I'll be posting later in the week with highlights from the upstairs.   DC Design House (April 13 - May 11, 2014)

So fun touring the house with you! I can't believe I missed that amazing powder room from Gatega, and the peacock theme is carried upstairs, too! See you soon, Jen

If I were a designer I would slit my wrists if given the playroom.
