Modern Source for Antiqued Mirror

The beautiful patina of antique mirrors is highly sought after but often very difficult to find. Would you believe that the gorgeous mirror above isn't old but new?

I've been following Regina Garay of Fauxology for years and was excited to find out that her firm, Garay Artisans, is now bringing their expertise to the medium of mirror and glass. Mirror Patinas can create custom mirrors that can be shipped worldwide, in any color or design, in sizes up to 5' x 10'. Creating the patina on the back of the mirror, it can be installed and cleaned just like a regular mirror. Here's their work in the lobby of the Bohemian Hotel in Savannah.
Love the mirror behind the wood detailing on these cabinet doors.
Lightly distressed mirror panels with rosettes.
A number of different finishes are available. Viscaya is my favorite.

Monograms, quotes and names can also be incorporated (ZouZou Boutique). Go here to see all the finishes - the possibilities are amazing!

I love old mirror because of the patina, but it's great to know that new can be made to look old - that opens up all kinds of possibilities.

How beautiful! I have a very unhealthy addiction to old mirrors ... with a whole closet full of them to show for it. There's just something fascinating about looking into the same mirror that someone else looked into so long ago. These reproductions are fabulous, and they evoke the same feeling.

i love this post.
this is a great source.
i once had the recipe for antiquing
mirror...
but it involved many chemicals-
one of the chemical/words in this recipe had the word 'acid' in it.
maybe i lost the recipe on purpose,or just knew the the word 'acid' and the word 'renee' might become a hazard.

at any rate i still have my finger prints and my eyes are intact.

i think ordering her tiles is a great solution for me.

Thank you for this reference. I bought a large Regency era overmantle mirror a number of years ago cheaply at auction with a jarringly modern piece of unblemished modern mirror in it. I have been meaning to replace the mirror plate ever since with old mirror plate, but have never been able to find a piece large enough for my mirror. I'm currently debating getting rid of the mirror altogether (not sure I want to take un such a large project--it has other condition issues, too), but if I decide to keep it I shall look into this resource. Thank you! Reggie

I have antiqued some modern mirrors myself, but I am always interested in a source for big pieces of glass. Many thanks for sharing! __ The Devoted Classicist

Michele - We truly appreciate your post on our mirror patinas. You've made our day so incredibly special -- thank you! We love to create them and I'm glad so glad you (and your readers, it seems) liked them so. The Vizcaya patina is one of my favorites, too. :)
