Atlanta Part 3: South of Market

Color, color and more color plus+ some of the most inventive lighting I've seen makes for great shopping at South of Market. For those DIY's, there are tons of ideas for creating your own lighting as well. Located at 345 Peachtree Hills Ave it's just a short drive from Max & Co. This store really put me in the mood for spring!!

Check out these cool basket pendant lights.

A seriously gorgeous green "can" makes for an inventive and interesting fixture. Love the aged finish on this piece.

Woven wood panels on the wall
Industrial lighting above. Below - thick glass jars turned into pendant lanterns.

I fought Blogger on this next picture and gave up - for the life of me I don't know why it wants to be sideways. These fixtures remind me of old fashioned cake molds - wouldn't they be great in a laundry room, office or play room?

Pretty grays and creams.

Basket lights - fun!

A seriously huge concave mirror - the photos are a bit blurry - love the blues and greens.

A bit of outdoor seating - a great shape for conversation. Thanks for all the comments and the additonal suggestions for shops in Atlanta. I also visited Pieces and Circa Lighting, which were great. I'm heading back in May so I've created a whole new list of places to check out.

Hopefully when I fly in next time it will be better weather. I meant to mention in my first post that we landed the night Georgia had 10 tornadoes! We circled the airport for 1 1/2 hours and were about to be diverted to Tennessee when they reopened the airport.

The pillows make South of Market look much more colorful than usual! They are known for their beautiful and unique iron lighting, and have the most interesting accessories.

In between Max & Co. and South of Market is the design center, and there are some amazing and unique stores there too (Amy Howard, Grizzel and Mann, Smith Grubbs, Jerry Pair, my favorites, Jerry Pair and Ainsworth Noah). It is 'to the trade' only, though.

Another area you might be interested in is the Westside. There are some great design stores there too - Bungalow Classic (love this store, and if you liked Max you would like it too), Belvedere, Lewis & Sheron (great resource for fabrics - literally thousands of patterns on rolls), Silk Trading Company, Terra Cottage. There are also some great art galleries in this area, and the 14th Street Antique Market is around the corner - it is about 10 times the size of the Interiors Market, same concept with spaces rented to antique dealers.

Kay Douglass has such a lovely eye - elegant, rustic, comfortable! I knew her store would be full of interesting things. I love some of the things you posted. Thanks for sharing with those of us far away!

Okay I wish someone could 'beam me up Scotty' and take me directly to South of Market. Either that or they magically open a store in Australia. Honestly, it's enough to make a girl weep - I wish we had something like this here. Seriously loving the repurposed objects as lighting, oh and that concave mirror is fabulous. Thanks so much for the wonderful Atlanta design tour.

Everything is stunning! Love the fuschia pillows, that certainly would add a punch to any decor and I love the curved outdoor seating! Such great finds and so many ideas. Cannot wait to see more.

What a fantastic showroom - I would love to feast my eyes on that place and maybe go home with a light or two. Thank you for your lovely comment at French Essence, xv.

wowza, I have been thinking I need a color - a pink or citron to liven things up a bit...around here.
The "circle of stones" is great, thinking I can make one with corks glued to a large sheet of heavy water-color and then frame it.
you always inspire me with what you eye spy.

very cool- i LOVE the fat rope for hanging lights- definitely a stealable idea (as are the galvanized buckets turned upside down, the laundry hampers are a bit too cutesy for me, though)

I love, love the ideas for lighting. I have been trying to figure out what type of lighting I want to put above my kitchen sink- some sort of pendant. After seeing your post- I am going to attempt to make my own version of the glass hurricane pendant lights. If I am seeing the price correctly- I better try to make my own version, because there's no way I could afford an orginal! Thanks so much for the inspiration!
