Cognac love

A visit to Katy Elliot's fabulous blog led me to the recent NY Time's piece on architect Gil Schafer's looks-old-but-it's-new Greek Revival. The house is gorgeous, with many lovely rooms, but I was drawn to these cognac colored walls. (click here for the complete slide show, photography by Phil Mansfield) It's not a color I would contemplate for my own house - but I think here, in this room, the color is perfection.

Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek - in their promo they refer to these walls as cognac. Does put one in the mood for some Courvoisier.

A modern take on this color, expecially the section of the wall to the right of the bookshelves. A very warm and dreamy color. Domino, Mary Jane Pool

I agree, this is not a color I would normally use, but I love it here!

Back in the day...I always wanted a cognac colored velvet sofa. It IS a very provocative color! Slurp.

I normally think of cognac in terms of leather, but these rooms look great.

It is a very brave decision to use this cognac colour on all walls! But I am sure that on the picture at the top it is not only the colour - it is the overall setting that makes the great look!

The first photo is stunning. I love all the books on the table. I have never seen this color used indoors, but I love the way it looks. My parents had a vacation home in the Dominican Republic and the exterior was painted in this exact same color.

swooning over the whole article. The library in the dining room double use of the space and I love that. I have built in bookcases in my dining room too. Love how he built that and it looks like the Greek Revival Guest House on Bunny William's Property.
Great post!
