Shelves at My House

Inspired by Lauren of Pure Style Home's seminar on arrangement, I decided to take on some of the shelving at my house. Above is the armoire in my family room which I recently painted Farrow & Ball's Pavilion Gray. I still don't have door fronts for the bottom half!

There are two sets of built-in shelves in our office/den. Not completely happy with these yet - there's a lot of little items, but they're all sentimental in one way or another.
We have two of these "spy cameras" as my kids refer to them. This one is sitting on a Voigtlander alligator camera case with writing inside that says "July 23, 1932 Heidelberg, May Snider"

The camera on the right side third shelf up was my very first camera and was given to me by Godmother Marion. Remember these - the Kodak Instamatic X-15 with the blinding flashcubes?!

(p.s. - the "Oscar" is, of course, fake.)

I love your shelving. I had one of the instamatic cameras with the flashbulbs when I was about 8. I loved it so much! I wonder what happened to it...

I love little treasures on the shelves! It makes a home so cosy and it is as the things on the shelves have a "live" on them! They like to be there!

Love your shelves! I love that the items are sentimental especially.

I think the bottom shelves are fine, but since you're not happy with the number of objects, you could try grouping your books together by color. Then a color group becomes one object, instead of many. :)

Thanks for all the comments. MzManners - like the idea to go back and sort out by color to clean up the look!

I love that you painted the back of the shelves the same delicious chocolate brown as on your walls. I wish I had the courage to display some of my treasures just like that. I really like what you've done!

Oh, I so envy the shelves. With stacks of books all over my house, we are yearning for shelves. Yours look fantastic just the way they are!

I am constantly reworking my shelving, adding favorite mementos, I have so many sentimental photos, at one point they were crammed w framed images! It is fun though to switch things around. Congrats on entertaining your famous guests!
