Christmas Mantel: A Favorite

This beautiful image graced the cover of Canadian House & Home in November 2006. The blue and green Christmas decor is inspired by the patterned fabric on the stuffed chairs. This is one of my all-time favorite images and I always thought it was a living room. It wasn't until this post that I realized this is the entrance hall of the home! (Design by homeowners Dale and James Egan, photography by Mark Bursty)

Very handsome indeed, and conforms to Reggie's cardinal rule when dressing a room for Christmas: take your cues from the room's decoration (its colors, style, etc.) rather than what is readily available in stores (red and green and gold). That is how we decorate at Darlington House. It is far more pleasing to see Christmas decorations that are contextual to their surroundings, as these are, than ones that are not.

love the blue satin ribbon-nice departure from the typical green and red. Looks rich and elegant but not overdone!

This photo is so beautiful!! I can't decorate my mantel the way I would like because hubby has his flat screen wall mounted above the fireplace... however... I could do this!!! Thanks for the inspiration! xo

Michele,
This is seriously the most beautiful mantle I have seen in a while. I love the paneled walls, which add warmth.
Have a nice day.

I toured that home when It was on a charity Christmas tour. They have another fireplace with hand painted tiles. They even had a huge Christmas tree in the kitchen. The designer couldn't make it to decorate last minute so the home owner had to call her on friends to help. It looked wonderful! The best on the tour in my opinion.

I never think of blue - but I love that it works with their existing decor and really exudes holiday. Great image!!!

I love greenery in a traditional or modern setting, it still smells and looks like Christmas.
That and lights!

Just LOVE it!! And can you imagine having an entrance hall like that?! I also love the entrance sitting area in Michael Smith's house that he features in his most recent book - it is such a gracious way to enter a home! Wish we could see how he decorates his!
