(*Update - based on all the comments I'm now on the no verification bandwagon. Hope it goes well.)
Is it just me or is it getting harder to prove you're not a robot when leaving a comment on blogger with word verification? Lately I've been failing at least of 1/3 of the time, sad, I know.

I, myself, have this feature on this blog and am starting to wonder if I should skip it but then there will probably be alot of crazy "robot" comments. The thought of enabling blogger approval and having to clear each comment isn't appealing either. Guess I'll just have to get better at deciphering blurry, curvy letters. Your thoughts?
p.s. Happy Pre- St. Patrick's Day!!

I havn't had word verification for over 2 years and I have never had any spam or robot comments. They have improved their filters to the point that I don't even know why they offer the word verification anymore. I do know that a ton of bloggers just skip comments all together rather than try to figure it all out. Turn it off and give it a try, you will be surprised that you don't have any robots or spam comments. Hugs, Marty
I removed it from my blog a long time ago and haven't had any problems. The spam comments still come, but Blogger has a good spam detection filter and automatically diverts them. I don't think I've ever had one get through.
oh, I LOVE YOU for this one! I have been SO tempted to post about this myself. I start to leave many blog comments only to back off when I have to "verify." Takes so long and I often fail on the first try, too! On my blog, I use the comment moderation - much easier and quicker.
I quite agree with you - so it's not just me who is squinting a bit more. Is it age perhaps? But, a funnier thing still is making a collection of these quirky 'words' that crop up - some can be quite amusing!
Laughing as I can never get this on the first (or 2nd) try! Facebook made me pass one just to post on my own page to post the other day!

I turned mine off after reading a similar post from a garden blogger. I haven't had any problems. No more word verification:)
I don't mind proving I'm not a robot, but I can't read most of these "words". I don't know why they have to be curvy, blurry and scrunched together so you can't tell the difference between an "n", an "m" and an "r" or a "t", an "f" and an "l". Sheesh!
These drive me crazy. Half the time I don't get it. You do know about these right? This is CAPTCHA technology and supposedly serves a purpose, which you can hear about here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ht4qiDRZE8
It is very interesting but still totally annoying. And I don't know if I believe them - I mean half the time they do not look like English, nor any other word.
By the way, you only need to get the "easy" word right. If you get the other wrong, it does not matter.
brilliant post michele, have been wondering is it me? am i just getting old?
HATE this verification method! often i end up not leaving a comment versus another attempt at getting it right.
on my blog, from the beginning, you comment and it goes straight through. in three years i will guess that the robots have spoken about 9 times.....not bad.
now as i look below, see that i will need at least 2 attempts!

Oh my goodness...I so agree!! I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one that has trouble getting these on the first or SECOND try! The world is so complicated, and this is just one more thing to make us nuts!!
I don't have it either Michelle..and it does not seem to be a problem!
Let's see if I can get through...because I never pass this test!!!
I moderate only, and pleased that I do as I don't miss anyone's comment! have never had a robot or spam.
I have on the whole stopped commenting where verification is needed!!!!!
I have trouble with these too. Some sites are worse than others. I haven't received many spam comments, and I do have mine set up for blog owner approval. But then I don't get tons of comments -- wish I received more!

Hi everyone, thanks for all the comments. You've convinced me - this blog no longer requires verification!
It is difficult to figure out those crazy words. I just do my best. I don't use word verification. Never had any problems. Have a good weekend.
I don't bother with word verification on my blog, but on other people's blogs I'm often amused or startled by how prescient some of the words are. It's as if it's following the plot...
Yes, I came back to say, I don't have word verification and I have only been spammed a handful of times. I just delete them.

so more chinese spam? maybe i'll try too.
Soo funny! I couldn't agree more dahhling.. I thought I was getting too old to read a screen! I fail all the time as well....
Thank you, thank you!! I hate the new two-word verification. It is such a pain and takes so long to figure out. I've never had word verification and I only occassionally get spam (google catches it most often and puts it in your spam folder) and it is easy enough to delete (forever button;) to make it go away. I hope you'll start a new movement!!
happy weekend!
