Have a small, dated bathroom you're dying to update? If so, then follow the lead of designer Christopher Patrick. Working with the bath's original brown and cream tiled floor, Christopher added in subway and accent tiles in contemporary patterns to create a luxurious retreat with a bit of an old-money vibe. Love this sleek vanity paired with modern pulls. This gem of a room is one of the stand-out spaces in the DC Design House and it's sure to get these designers noticed.

Notice how the subway tile runs both horizontally and vertically. Another great takeaway - hide an unsightly floor with a custom teak mat.

ReplyDeleteI have been watching this house develop while at the same time I have been working on the Baltimore Symphony Associates Show House. It opens later this month. I had a chance to do the master bathroom and I understand the challenges of trying to re-do a bathroom in a show house. Christopher came up with some innovative solutions for dealing with a dated bathroom without taking it all down to the studs. Great job!

ReplyDeleteYou know it's always nice when someone does something different from the usual "trendy" decorating solutions for a small bathroom. I respect the effort. However, this one did not have the desired effect on me. After reading the comments I had to go back and look at the photos again just in case I missed something. Sorry to say, I'm still not liking this bathroom at all. It's not that I dislike anything in particular but rather all of the elements together. Reminds me a little of a patched-up 80's bathroom. I'm embarrassed to say I thought it was the "before" shot. Sorry to disagree.
ReplyDeleteI am always sad when designers pull up vintage floor tile. The tile is great and I think the way they worked it into their overall design is genius. The accessories are awesome too.
ReplyDeleteLove the wallpaper and the gutsy use of red paint on ceiling. I've grown so weary of white ceilings, especially with darker colors on walls. It reminds me of too short pants upside down.
ReplyDeleteAgree - they did a great job on this bath. It really stood out from the rest of the tour. Love how the integrated the existing tile floor (it still felt fully updated) down to how they styled the makeup nail polish. Details!
