The Washington Post's Jura Koncius hit it out of the ball park yesterday with her feature on decorator Michele Evan's Georgetown row house she shares with husband Council member Jack Evans and their six children. Tearing down the walls of the 18 foot wide first floor, a large living area was created with this incredible kitchen taking center stage. This may be my favorite kitchen of 2012. Notice how Michele repeats the strong rectangular lines throughout the space. Love those spot-on perfect pendant lights. (Photography by Katherine Frey)
In addition to being beautiful, the kitchen is unique and functional. There's a built-in coffee maker and a potting area with a soapstone sink and fabulous brass bridge faucet.
A dining area with a limestone table is nestled in the front bay window overlooking the street.
A neutral palette of soft creams and grays with touches of caramel create a restful living space. I'm noting the balls in the fireplace - wonder what they are made of?
Michele created an incredible backyard with large dining and outdoor tv lounge area. The article notes that with their patio heaters they can use the space 8 months of the year and last year hosted Thanksgiving dinner outside for 18.
I missed the Post feature yesterday, thanks for sharing. What an amazing house!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fabulous house. The design is perfection. Though I do think the garden sink area is a bit cutsey for an otherwise very sleek current house- it seems too small to do any real kind of planting (jmho;)
ReplyDeletehappy weekend!

What a gorgeous home! But 6 children!? Is 6 the new 2?
ReplyDeleteSqueak - Hi. They're a blended family, three children and triplets whose mother passed away from cancer. The Post article features the space made for bedrooms.
ReplyDeleteDidn't like the tv in the garden; then saw there were 6 kids. They can have a tv in the garden.
ReplyDeleteI think the balls in the fireplace are lava rocks, just big ones!
ReplyDeleteLove what Maryland says about the tv in the garden, it's probably strategic!
This was truly lovely. Adored the personal touches in the kitchen. Just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMy Notting Hill - thank you! It never occurred to me it was a blended family (I'm still living in the Stone Age, obviously). It's a beautiful house for what sounds like a beautiful family.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a beautiful house and I like the monochromatic decoration. I do have one pet peeve, and that's about the picture hanging either side of the fireplace....alignment. Quite easy to fix, and strange because obviously care and thought has gone into hanging the set of six; the top line of these need to move up to align with the map(?) on the lhs. I'd be inclined the align all three groups, but that's just me!
ReplyDeleteGWA...jus!
ReplyDeleteLOVE...no, WANT this one!
I love this home! It is so pulled together and makes so much sense to have the whole floor in view of the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the metal windows with door to the backyard!
Have a great see.
