DC Design House: Part 2 of 3
Do you like luxe surroundings? If so, you're in luck because Nestor Santa-Cruz, the master of mixing periods and pieces in a fresh, contemporary way, will be working his magic in the dining room. Inspired by the property's proximity to several embassies in the area, Nestor said he imagined a room "where a polyglot, a traveler, a collector, or just a person with great international flair (much like D.C. itself!), would feel at home." There will be a "mix modern Scandinavian modern furniture classics with French neoclassical pieces with Asian touches - it's a very "today room," quite American in its freedom."
The room will be grounded by a custom flat weave wool inspired by Eileen Grey designs and Mondrian, made in Egypt by rug manufacturer Matt Cameron. Nestor mentioned it will have an aged wear to it versus a brand new look - perfect for this space. Among the different furnishings planned, there is a steel pedestal from Crate & Barrel and a chair from Tone on Tone. I'm also very excited about the wall treatment planned - is it April 14th yet? (actually, April 9th for Press Day)
It's a boy and a girl! Last years Nancy Twomey's boy's bedroom was a hit. This year it should be a double smash as the muses for this nursery are twins. Soothing neutrals comprise the palette with unique touches for each baby. I love the modern, graphic floral and varied stripe she's chosen.
Regan Billingsley has strong lines and color planned for this teenage boy's bedroom. Charcoal stripes and a mix of geometric prints create a fun, masculine vibe that's not too serious. How could it be with those cool duck portraits planned for over the bed?
Terri Easter and Ashleigh Bradshaw of The Maris Elaine Gallery plan to have this powder room do double duty as a mini art gallery. Love that idea. Antiqued mirror will line the back of the existing shelving and serve to visually expand the space and create interest.
Who needs grey and white marble when you have this gorgeous onyx. Taking her cue from this warm hue, Darlene Molnar will be using complimentary colors and a mix of furnishings to make this space a retreat. Love her inspiration photo of the women with flowers in front of the blue door.
The DC Design House will be open from April 14th - May 12th (closed on Mondays)
I am loving these sneak peeks!
