So here is an overview of what's been done for my Master Bedroom makeover since last week: (go here for the previous weeks.)
- headboard recovered
- grasscloth put up in Pax unit and adjoining wall area
- Pax doors installed ( two of them cut down to size) and painted
- drapes sewn and pelmut almost finished
- knobs ordered for new closet doors
- bought nightstand/dresser for my husband's side of the bed
- installed new flush mount ceiling light
Here's the recovered headboard in the gray velvet and I am in love with it!
Every picture I took of it made the top ends look wonky - which they really aren't when you look at them in person. Anyways… The shutter screen is back over the awkward small window over the bed. The middle slats can be opened to let light in.
Here are the new 14" deep Pax closets. I chose the wood doors which made it easier for painting. Still need to trim the edges along the wall, add in molding and eventually shelves on either side to create a built-in appearance. In all honesty, the shelves phase will most likely happen after the ORC. I will be painting the vent so it's not so prominent. (sorry for the awful photos, it's very rainy and gloomy here.)
To attach the grasscloth, I used both the regular and the Outdoor double-sided Mounting tape. It was so easy to do.
They may stay silver but most likely they'll get the gold treatment.
Dan replaced the 1950's light cover - it looked alot like this one,
with the Oxnard 2 Light Ceiling Brushed 5"x13"x13" Brshd Nickel Fn, which is under $40. I spray painted it gold and then went over that with Rub n' Buff Grecian Gold.
NOW for my question. The walls and trim/Pax closet doors are painted in BM Ancient Ivory, flat and semi-gloss respectively. I know that I should also probably paint these closet doors Ancient Ivory too. It's a small room and painting the doors Ancient Ivory would allow the eye to travel, not break-up the look, etc…BUT I just don't feel like it.
What do you think if I paint these closet doors in BM Dior Gray in Gloss or Semi-gloss? (The opposite wall with the window will have a pelmut in the same velvet as the headboard and the gold fabric drapes.)
Am I crazy?
Do you need to save me from myself? Let me know, I'd love to hear your advice.
Now be sure to head over to check out what my fellow ORC bloggers have accomplished. There are some amazing and inspiring things going on in the other 19 spaces!
I so need about 20 of that perfect flushmount. I say paint the doors gray and live with it for a while. Its only paint and if you think its a mistake later get out the white paint.
ReplyDeleteI have the same light fixture! I love the idea of gray doors. Looking forward to the reveal.
ReplyDeleteThat's the best looking flush mount I've ever seen. And I say go for gray on the door. You are in great shape for next week!
ReplyDeleteI love the gray door idea- definite yes from me on that one! All is looking fabulous!
ReplyDeleteeither option would look great -but I would paint the closet doors the wall color to help them 'disappear' and be quiet.
ReplyDeleteLove that flush mount (I'm going to send my husband out for one today, we've needed a light by our back door for awhile, thanks you just saved me some time!) The doors would be beautiful in gray, and if I had time (hehe) some easy diy moulding would be pretty, have you seen how they use wood picture frames? :)
ReplyDeleteI think the size of your room really dictates one focal point. That amazing gray headboard and window treatments will carry the room.JD
ReplyDeleteIt all looks great - love the headboard - and I would use that yummy gray on the doors. Looking forward to next week.
ReplyDeleteLooking so great!
ReplyDeleteI'm saving this flush mount to Pinterest so I can remember this for clients. Love what you've done! Can't wait for next week.
ReplyDeleteYes, to anything gray. I love that tone you chose. I love how it's coming together.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good question....I agree that maybe you want the doors to go away and blend with the walls....if you have other focal points. Maybe the "white space" will give the eye some rest...on the other hand I love the thought of gray on them. Can you wait until the window treatments are up to decide? I'm no help:)
ReplyDeleteYES on the gray door! genius idea.
ReplyDeleteOh man... that is a tough call on the paint. I think if you go gray then maybe all the walls will need more stuff for balance. Not sure what you have planned for art. I say white.
ReplyDeleteLooking good and love the light hack!
You should know better than to ask bloggers their opinion. You'll be more confused than ever!
ReplyDeleteI say white on the doors! :)
If I were you I would paint the doors gray. I like the balance that will give the room. Also, in cases like this, your gut is telling you not to paint the doors gray. Listen to your gut.
ReplyDeleteThe light fixture looks great!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the big reveal next week!

Love the headboard. I am not the one to ask about the doors because I love white....everything. Good luck with your decision.
ReplyDeleteThe velvet headboard is lovely!! your bedroom is going to be beautiful and I can't wait to see it next week! I think white doors so they disappear, but I think you can't go wrong either way.
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely loving that grasscloth! Everything looks AMAZING!! I would leave the doors white, but grey would be lovely too. I cannot wait to see your final reveal!!
ReplyDeleteXOXO,
The Glam Pad
Love the flushmount DIY! And I saw go for a contrast on those doors! Follow your gut :) One more week!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom will be a quiet relaxing haven. Really looking forward to the final reveal. For the reveal I say paint the doors white. Gorgeous look and feel, love the textural blend of grass cloth and velvet.

You should go with your feeling... You can always paint it over if you are not happy with your choice. It's only paint. Can't wait to see the reveal next week!
ReplyDeleteLove the grasscloth and the pretty light fixture!
ReplyDeleteLove those fabrics!!!!
ReplyDeleteTrust your instincts. It's only paint, right?! Go for the gray. If you're not feeling it after, then you can easily repaint.
ReplyDeleteOkay so here's what I have to say. Go Gray. And Gloss. If you are going to take the chance, do it big!! I love that it balances the headboard. And as Kerry says … if you hate it … paint it!! Looking good my friend!!
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty color. I say trust your instincts. Good luck! Safe travels next week!
ReplyDeleteHow about black for the doors?
ReplyDeleteYou are so clever, yes love the grey door idea too! cant wait to see the end reveal of your room x
