I've seen subway tile stacked for a modern look but I'm loving this running vertical installation with these slightly longer tiles. Very effective in a glossy color finish. (Pin from Homebunch here)

I want to like it but it just seems gimmicky to me and 'new' and will be very dated in a few years. The reason it works so well horizontally is that's the way bricks work structurally (or stone or any material) so it just appear 'right' to your eye. It took mankind millennia to figure that out and someone reverses it cause they think it looks 'cool'? That's not staying power. I think stacked bond instead of running bond is a nice modern look though. I just can't get behind vertical, it seems incorrect to me!
