After Georgetown There's Frederick MD


While my daughter was in an all-day ballet workshop, I entertained myself in nearby Frederick, MD.  It's probably been 10 years since I've been in downtown Frederick and the shopping and restaurant scene is more vibrant than ever.  Steeped in civil war history, it's also full of historic homes.  Aren't the planters above fabulous with the flambeau finials?


Certified as largest and oldest Gingko Tree of it's kind in the U.S.













This reminds me of a village lane in England.





So good it deserves a closer look.

    Wonderful and yes, it is all very English!
    It is nice to see that a town in the US, so close to Washington DC and all that power and business, can look so much like they are on a country lane in England . Actually, the first people there were probably from England so there is likely good reason why the old houses look the way they do.

    I haven't been in ages either but always am pleasantly surprised while there at how charming it is - good comparison to Georgetown! Did you stop by McGruders (or whatever that place is) with all the jellys & jams? I love their apple butter!

    Beautiful places! That first door color is gorgeous.

    Amazing ginko tree. We're starting to use them as street trees here. They have really lovely asymmetrical forms.

    Wonderful front entries. I have alwasy admired those tiny little row houses and each time I pass wonder what life is like inside, both now and in the past.

    The people of Fredrick have obviously embraced the charm of original finishes and restored them. It's attention to details like this that makes it so special. It is lovely.
