Unbelievable Room(s) Envy

Porchlight Interiors recently featured the work of South African designer John Jacob Zwiegelaar of John Jacob Interiors. I then spent the next hour+ immersed in the firm's portfolio. The designer is only in his early 30's and the work is impressive. This room is my absolute favorite. The back wall is covered in a brown grass cloth. Notice the two lamps on both sides of the fireplace; that's something I haven't seen before. Love the mutiple rugs scattered over the hardwood floors. (all images from John Jacob Interiors)

Bright white with green accents makes for a crisp, clean aesthetic. This lantern looks to be an exact match of the one in the living room. Click here to read more about this project in the Nov. 08 issue of House & Garden South Africa.

This is the designer's own home in Bantry Bay. In an article he says that the key to black and white schemes is provenance, otherwise "black and white can seem viscously plastic." The round mirror in the fireplace and the mirror panels flanking the fireplace are my favorite features in this room. Well, love the rug and the greek key trim too.

Such a civilized kitchen!

Thank you Porchlight Interiors for featuring John Jacob Zwiegelaar. To see more of the firm's work, click here. Just be sure you have a spare hour!

I see what you mean - I could LIVE in those images!
Don' think I've ever seen B&W done with such elegant coziness. Interesting that the designer/owner states to do the opposites-attract colorscheme, one should go higher-end. I've always heard you can get away with lower-end items if you stick to the neutrals - Ha!

Lovely, lovely post - Thank You!

What a fabulous introduction to this designer ! It's so nice to see rooms that have "stuff" in them. It's beautiful stuff. Interiors are often so minimal these days we forget about all those wonderful pieces that create character.

Very nice
Thanks for the intro

The black and white living room looks really awesome ... it is so hard to pull a stylish look with black and white as the color scheme yet the designer succeeds in creating a warm and chic looking space.

Not a big fan of b/w in the main room but the kitchen is amazing. There's something timeless and classic about the tiled floors. The bedroom is very 'Out of Africa.' Truly lovely work!

Just wonderful. I had the kitchen pic in my files & passed it on to my mother in Phoenix. She is using it for inspiration on her kitchen re-do this summer. Thanks for showing us the rest of this beautiful place. The mirrored panels grabbed me too! And I love the mirror at ground level. So many are hung above the mantel & reflect nothing at all. This is an interesting approach. Always great to visit with you.

STunning interiors! I like the two lamps on each side of the FP too!

The windows and doors in all of these pics are amazing! The night time photography really makes the first room glow...I wonder how that is done.

Thanks!
