A Family Vestibule

The Charityworks GreenHouse ended a few weeks ago but the eye candy continues! Designed by Miriam Dillon and Rebecca Foley of Custom Design Concepts Architecture + Interiors, the family vestibule is comprised of a mudroom, laundry room and powder room that are stylish, functional and eco-conscious. The reclaimed wood in a herringbone pattern on the wall echoes the hardwood floors in other parts of the home. I think the pendant lights and the choice of a settee, as opposed to a built-in bench, creates a more furnished feel to this very practical space. (all photography by Gordon Beall, posted with permission)
Love the whimsical touches and those houndstooth checked wellies in the cubby!
In the hallway that leads from the garage into the house, an antiqued mirror is surrounded with bordered sections of wallpaper. There's also a console table in this space and a chandelier made from reclaimed French oak wine barrel staves. (in the left corner of the pic)
The powder room is narrow and I think the inset cabinet solution is very effective - providing ample counter space on either side of the sink. The sink is made from cast iron that is 93% recycled and reclaimed and the tiles are 70% recycled glass.
The laundry room also takes advantage of every inch of space, including a narrow counter that runs behind the sink. One of my favorite features is the lift-up cabinet doors that provide concealed storage for laundry products, household cleaners, etc.
Ok, now after doing this post do I really have to go down to my dark, basement laundry room and put the wash in the dryer?!

I LOVE this! We don't have a mudroom, and I actually wouldn't mind this set up in my primary entry. It's stylist and seems more true to how we use our entry than being formal (and forever tidying!).

Gorgeous. Love the lighting in the mudroom - the blue glass is wonderful. And, of course, the dachsund boot scraper!

So much detail in these charming rooms. I love it! I have such a passion for large, comfortable laundry rooms. Wonder what that means?

How wonderful it would be to have such a space. We practically fall over each other getting through the small laundry room out to the garage...love the bleached color palette, refreshing and beautiful.

I'm with Linda M...love those glass lights. They look like they are recycled glass bottles with the bottom cut out. Bet you could make those DIY.

I am so glad that I also have a mudroom because I always say that it really is a meeting point(just a little one of course) for the family members! The one is going into the garen, while crossing the one who is getting back from walking the dog, or I am busy arringing flowers in a vase,...
So I love these pictures you showed here because I do love mudrooms!

Thank you Michele for the wonderful post. Not only was this an exciting project, but it is a perfect example of how fun it can be to be "green".

Brilliant! I love the rustic palette and the great use of space. It seems put together over time, collected, yet cohesive.

That's just great! I need this in my house...the storage would make everything so neat and tidy instead of the usual heap of coats that pile up at our entry!

This was one of my absolutely favorite spaces in any showhouse I've seen this year. Miriam and Rebecca are so talented. It was perfection, but not over polished the way most showhouse rooms are.

I agree about the setee instead of the built in, so much more inviting.
