Predicting Red for 2011 Color of the Year

O.K. - I'll either look back at this post fondly or with egg on my face but I have a feeling that red is going to be the Color of the Year in 2011. What do I base this on? It's certainly not any market research but I have been noticing & admiring the color red lately. I emphasize the "admiring" part as I've never been one to care for red and if I'm starting to like it that must mean something (or, nothing at all!) The red bead
chandelier is from Julia Edelmann's design studio in Chicago. You may remember the previous version in turquoise. (I've forgotten who designed this chandelier)

Here's the new Rose Line lamp from CB2 - they chose a red cord. Below is a bar arrangement styled by Ken Chrzastek of Chicago's Mecox Gardens. I think Ken creates the best store vignettes ever and if he's drawn to an all red bar palette...

So, what do you think? Could it be RED or am I totally off-base?

(p.s. - I'm on travel and posted this from my iPad w/wireless keyboard. Love it!)

This is hard for me to swallow. I've had my family room accented with red for 6 yrs. now and I'm itching to change it. NOW you tell me it might finally be IN! Boo for me....you are most likely right.

I have been off red for years...It seems like Pottery Barn always bring it back in some capacity every fall...But...I do like red and turquoise together so I think you may be on to something!!! I am gonna agree with you :)

Red will also be a classic, and it would be refreshing to see it getting attention in 2011. So, I certainly hope you're right!

I'm already there! Love, love, love red. I have a red kitchen with blue and yellow accents and red is an accent color in the rest of my house.

I'm feeling red too. We're moving into a new house soon. My husband's basement "man den" is going to have lots of red accents.

I have been trying to stay FAR away from red since I started decorating my home... for some reason, I have a horrible feeling about it... maybe because it is so strong in a space?.... BUT I am pretty much in love with the red chandelier you posted-- I think this would be a fun accent for any space... red lover or not!

Red is a classic color and I love it to bits.
I love it for nails, for lips and for accents.
Do you have a crystal ball?

I'll agree with you on the color family...I predict that pinks, and especially peach tones will become round again. I'm noticing those '80s peach and salmon tones (with a modern twist of course!) everywhere! Red/orange would be fabulous accent colors!

I hope you are right and I hope it is a red that is towards the yellow side, rather than blue, of the color wheel.

Let's hope NOT! I think the color may be mauve/lavender/purple, now that I could do.

Red is classic. Red is wonderful.I don't usually follow trends, but I think you are on to something!

Honestly & truly, I think you are on to something. I don't typically opt for red but one never knows! My parents once painted their kitchen cabinets the most glorious shade of red. After that I looked at red in a whole different light. xx

Today I was designing around the red in the pillow fabric I found for my client, found wonderful art for over the sofa and dining wall, then I am pulling out the blue for accent pillows...Red seems to come up every 6 clients or so... and a red sofa comes up everyso often...
Love designing around a red sofa...lots of interesting things happen when I do.
I am ok with whatever my clients colours are, I just work with them and around them...
Red as a trend? I just need to mention it to our buyer so we get so great stuff in time.

I don't know. Could be. I hadn't thought about it. I've been in such a purple and green phase lately....but red is lovely and I'll keep my eye out.

Fall looks to be a bit blase ---- camel, gray --- love those, but not a lot of color.

Happy Friday!
