Stalking "My" Seaside House

More accurately, STILL stalking this story book seaside house in Watch Hill, RI. The reference to "my" is strictly aspirational. I can't visit Watch Hill without gazing at this house and taking as many pictures as possible - even with husband and kids reminding me I already have all these same pictures!
The quality of the detailing is incredible and just amps up the charm of this home.
Here I am peering through the gate meant to keep people like me at bay.

The view out to the ocean. Could it be more perfect? By chance has anybody ever been inside this home?

Do you have a home you covet and re-visit as often as possible?

Would you ever have the nerve to leave a letter in the mailbox explaining that you need to see the inside to feature it on your blog? :)
My aunt stalked a house in her neighborhood, wrote them a letter, and now owns it!!!

I bet the interior is just as incredible!

I remember when you first began your blog journey and this photo was on your side-bar and I thought immediately how magnificent that home is. I love the view, the details and the charm.
Maybe if I sketch it and you bring it on your next stalk- they might give you a tour! Flattery never hurt.

Gorgeous and yes - I'm a home stalker as well - I love walking the dogs at night and hopefully getting a sneak peek into peoples homes - my husband thinks I'm a nut!

Oh it's lovely - and what a view! I agree with Colette's Cottage - pop a note through the door and tell them they would be fulfilling a public service!)

My name is Robyn & I'm a house stalker. When my husband & I bought our home, a house was just completed outside of our neighborhood. It's wonderful. Fabulous. Beautiful. Everyday when I go for a run I make sure to go past the house. I imagine one day that the owners will invite me in for a tour.

I love your "stalker" house. I would have to do the same.

I am in love with Watch Hill! My boyfiend and I go as much as we can from Connecticut in the summers, everything about it is so perfect and the houses are to die for!

I knew instantly that I had seen this house before. It is phenomenal! My grandmother lives in Mystic CT, not far from Watch Hill and I have had the pleasure of admiring this house in person. I too would die to see the inside. Love it!

I grew up spending summers in RI very close to Watch Hill. My parents actually know whose house it is - the owner built The Ocean House (www.oceanhouseri.com). It is a gorgeous house!

The details are amazingly charming...I used to have a house I went to every time I could convince someone to tour with me, until it sold. The millwork and other detailing had me dreaming of the home long afterwards! Janell

You are too funny. I have a couple of houses on my "stalk" list. I just like to go by and see how they are doing. If I lived by this Seaside House I would drive by everyday. That view is simply amazing.

Wow, what a stunning and absolutely unique house! I've never seen anything remotely like it - just stunning. I did have a giggle though - I do exactly the same thing, and have a couple of houses that I've stalked relentlessly over the years - it's comforting to know I'm not the only one with this particular affliction! Sadly yes, and also sadly, it is very close to me, so I can pine over it all the time. And can see when it finally gets sold (yes, it is for sale!!!). It is quite expensive, but absolutely gorgeous.

Where is this house in Watch Hill? Love Watch Hill and they have the cutest stores there! I also love eating at the Olympia Tea Room...the view of the water and the marina is so amazing.

Oh to have a home that people would stalk...! Absolutely gorgeous. With care to the outside like that, the inside must be nothing short of to-die-for. I grew up in RI, and it might be worth the 90 minute drive from where I am now just to take a peek. Thanks for sharing :)

I was stalking a house for a while. I knew the woman who lived there but she had never invited me....so..I tried to time my walk with a huge thunder storm. I ran right up soaking wet and rang the doorbell. Then, I got my wonderful tour!! Now that's serious stalking! However, now we are friends, so I may share her house with you one day. Its a gem, but your object of affection sends me--especially that beautiful porte-cochere! Thanks!

You've got me carried away. Great topic, I am a house stalker!! There was a house in San Marino I adored with a porte-cochere like that one. It was white brick with blue trim and a drive through p.c. Horns would honk, when I slowed for my object of affection--let them, was all I could say. I finally got to see the house in the movie "The Player." I think Daryl Hannah got my house in the end. She opens the door pregnant, so Tim What's his name, who is married to Susan Sarandon can have perfection for the rest of her life. When Mr. in-trouble-movie producer rolls down the driveway, after two hours of high drama--He's At My House!! I cried out in the darkness of the theatre: "She Has MY HOUSE.!" Memory lane of stalks, blogs within blogs within plays. I love it everyday!

Thanks everyone for all these comments!
Marcy - We stayed at the old Ocean House before the renovation. That's fun to know the owners of the Ocean House own that home.

Aoife Troxel - I didn't know it was for sale. Wish I had a trunk full of serious money!

I've been in both houses on the property, which is much bigger than you would ever guess from the street. It was many years ago, but I vaguely remember that the gatehouse (the one you can see in your picture) had a lovely living space over the the porte cochere decorated with an equestrian theme and possibly dark green. I don't remember much about the main house, except that there's a hidden sun patio among the peaks of the roof, and the lawns are gorgeous and much bigger than you would think sweeping down to the water.

The previous poster is correct that the property is owned by the main investor in the Ocean House restoration. I believe his daughter and son-in-law now occupy the gatehouse. (He owns several houses in the area; his next investment project is the renovation of the Weekapaug Inn two districts over. The renovated Ocean House is absolutely gorgeous and the retro cocktails and the verandah menu are to die for!)

So funny! It was the sight of this house on your blog a long time ago that started my daily (sometimes twice daily) design blog fix. I have printed out pics of this house months ago and I am thrilled to see some new pics at (ever so slightly!) different angles.

I share your obsession!

That house is work stalking. Wow!

Linda Merrill said...

Yup, that's pretty fantastic! Perhaps you should write them a note and see if they'd let you write about the inside? You never know. Meanwhile, I love the repeated herringbone pattern in the doors, walls and brick under the porte cochere.
