Do you still miss Southern Accents? I do, and when I saw the work of Charlottesville based designer Jan Roden I couldn't help but think of the aethestic respresented so beautifully in that magazine. Her interiors are both refined and comfortable; a balance that is hard to achieve but stands apart when it's done masterfully. In addition to designing, she co-runs And George with her daughter Christy Ford, a former NY photographer, whose own home has been featured in a number of magazines.

Thank-you for your southern hospitality and introduction to Jan Roden. What magic and sweetness! Growing up in Kentucky, I love the Southen Accents and how they can be taken anywhere and add a gentile touch to a home.

I'm ga-ga over the white ironstone.
I have about 50 pieces, but I must own a shelf like this for it all ...
Thank you so much for this article on Jan. I have an old Christmas article from Traditional Home that still leaves me dizzy! I've wondered over the years where she's been. Happy New Year! Denise
I do miss it-and think Veranda, originally steeped in the southern design sensibility is heading away-very far away from the South. These rooms are indicative of what is missing-and I love them.
I do miss the charm of Southern Accents! Thanks so much for this post on Jan--gorgeous and pretty.
Thanks for the dose of Southern Accents - definitely missing it!!
That kitchen looks like my friend, Annette's.
I love the pale blue sofa.
Michelle, I still miss Southern Accents. I really discovered how much I loved interior design when I loved to Atlanta 20 years ago and Southern Accents was so typical of southern style. Sad to see so many great shelter mags leave us in the last few years.
I, too, miss Southern Accents.
And I also miss House and Garden. Those were my two favorite magazines and, as far as I am concerned, their shoes haven't been filled by those remaining. I am holding on to many of the old issues.

I miss Southern Accents too, Michele. I just hope that they will bring it back.
These images are gorgeous. Thank you for sharing.
Hope that your week is going well.

Thank you for introducing me to Jan Roden. What beautiful style.
Absolutely miss Southern Accents, even from all the way up here in Toronto, Canada. Nothing quite matches the interiors depicted in those pages. Although many of the homes featured exuded a mix of decades-old collected and refined expression, they were always charged with ingenuity and hip interpretations of unmistakable southern style.
I still have their unchanging website on a shortcut! Just hoping one day, they'll be back.
:(
Ooh very nice Michelle..Elegant and charming..
I'll have to keep thisdesingers profile on hand..
Ys, I miss Southern Accents - terribly!!! And, I love the work of Jan Roden -- and I was thinking "And George" the minute I started reading your post.
I got the most gorgeous gift tags from them, that I'll post about soon. One of these days, I want to visit the store in person!
Her store "And George" is a must to visit when you are in Charlottesville. It's actually a really good reason to visit that historic city. Years ago I bought stackable, glass drinking glasses from that store, and they are still in daily use.
That tree root table, in particular, is amazing. __ The Devoted Classicist

I love that kitchen! There's nothing like an all white kitchen. Beautiful! I have read design magazines where the store "And George" is shown. What a beautiful store!
