Per a press release yesterday: "Margaret Russell has been named Editor-in-Chief of Architectural Digest, it was announced today by Thomas J. Wallace, Editorial Director of Condé Nast. Her appointment is effective September 7, 2010. The editorial headquarters of Architectural Digest, currently in California, will move to New York City."
Congratulations Margaret! From my point of view this means - Architectural Digest is now going to be a must-buy magazine!
Reporter Steve Cohn of minonline reports her debut issue will be January 2011. More details here.
Now I wonder who will replace Margaret at Elle Decor? She leaves behind huge shoes to fill.

Best thing that has ever happened to Architectural Digest! Elle Decor -- I don't know what will happen there.

I'm excited to see what fresh eyes will do for AD!
May, just maybe, after all this fruit basket turnover, we will end up with a handful of good shelter magazines once again! Town and Country is already better, Newell Turner looks to be a fine replacement for Stephen Drucker, AD will certainly become readable again.....who knows? I am going to think positively and look forward to some new perspectives!
I hope this will resuscitate AD....because I stopped reading it a few years ago.....Bring it Margaret!
I'm shocked! And how ironic, just yesterday was discussing with dear husband (who was showing me a barn featured in NH in a neighboring town from us, in the current AD issue as we were having our car worked on;) how surprising it was that AD was still out there (not well loved) with all of the shelters closing. Can't wait to see what she does with it. She will be a breath of fresh air for that pub for sure!

I heard this yesterday and am excited to see what she does with this publication....it needs a fresh approach.
I agree, this is a fantastic thing for AD and a great thing for all of us who love magazines (and have never really been 'into' the aesthetic of AD).
Such good news!!! I would follow Margaret Russell anywhere!!!
I'm finally tempted to subscribe to AD.

Wow! I can't wait to see how she revamps AD! It's a magazine that I always thought i should like but could never get into! I would love another fresh and chic shelter mag to subscribe to!
Oh my gosh!! Elle Decor is synonymous with Margaret Russell to me- cannot wait to see what she does with AD.
wow.

Excited to see what she brings to AD!

Shock horror - what will happen to Elle Decor? It's ironic and Margaret Russell and Stephen Drucker, the two editors who best weathered the GFC storm and kept their magazines afloat and flourishing are moving on.
As if it wasn't good enough news that Paige Rense's reign of Hollywood Terror was over, now this! Indeed it should be a splendid magazine. And don't we assume that Mitchell Owens must be up for Editor at Elle Decor?
hi new friend... so hope you had a wonderful time on the cape... sure loved our mtg... and look forward to dinner next time.. xx pam
Wow that will be an exciting new adventure for her, and for sure a whole lot more AD for us!
Who has replaced her at Elle Decor - do you know?
x Charlotta
